Beyond Organic, Beyond Anxious: The Farm Behind Your Pet's Calm

I have stood on the farm.
Not looked at photos of it. Not read about it in a brochure. I actually flew to Palmyra, Wisconsin, walked seven hundred acres of certified organic farmland, and watched buckwheat get harvested in the morning and processed into a supplement by afternoon. I toured the manufacturing facility. I saw the Refractance Window Drying technology running in real time, protecting nutrients that conventional drying would destroy. I met the people who do this work every day.
And I thought about all of you.
Because what I saw in Wisconsin is the answer to a question I get constantly: how do I know if my pet's supplements are actually doing anything?
This month, I want to take you to that farm. And I want to introduce you to a formula I helped build; one that could not be more timely with July 4th right around the corner.
The Problem with "Natural" Supplements
Walk into any pet store and you will find an entire wall of supplements with words like "natural," "wholesome," and "premium" on the label. What those labels almost never tell you is where the ingredients actually came from, how they were processed, or whether the nutrients survived long enough to reach your pet's cells in a form the body can recognize.
This matters more than most people realize.
A synthetic vitamin isolate and a nutrient pulled from a living plant are not the same thing, even if they share a name on a label. The body recognizes whole food. It knows what to do with real buckwheat, real alfalfa, real pea vine. It does not always know what to do with an ascorbic acid molecule manufactured in a lab and pressed into a tablet.
The difference is not subtle. It shows up in how your pet absorbs, utilizes, and responds to what you are giving them.
So when I tell you Standard Process is different, I need you to understand that I do not say that lightly. I have spent years in this field. I have vetted a lot of products. And Standard Process is the one I trust enough to build my practice around, because I have seen exactly where it comes from.

What "Beyond Organic" Actually Looks Like
USDA Organic certification is meaningful. It sets a real standard. But at Standard Process, organic is the starting line, not the finish line.
Here is what I saw on that farm in Palmyra:
700+ acres. One property. The farm, the manufacturing facility, and the distribution center all share the same land. That is not a coincidence. It is a philosophy. From the moment a plant is harvested to the moment it becomes part of a formula, it never has to travel far or wait long.
Nothing has ever been sprayed on those fields. Not now. Not decades ago when the standards were lower and no one was watching. They also maintain buffer zones around all their crops to protect against any potential drift from neighboring non-organic land. And the fields are watered exclusively with artesian well water and fed with on-site compost. This is what regenerative farming looks like in practice: actively rebuilding the soil rather than just avoiding the worst of what conventional farming does to it.
60 to 80% of the ingredients in Standard Process formulas are grown right there. On that farm. In that soil. Watered with that artesian well water. That level of control over source quality is almost unheard of in the supplement industry.
Harvested in the Morning. In a Formula by Afternoon.

This is the part that had me in awe and wonderment when I saw it!Â
The new Refractance Window Drying facility sits literally next door to the crops. Plants are harvested and begin processing the same day they are cut. There is no long haul trucking. No sitting in a warehouse. No gap between peak nutritional value and the moment it is captured.
The technology itself is called RWD — Refractance Window Drying — and it works by never heating ingredients above body temperature. That sounds like a small detail until you understand what heat does to the compounds that make whole food supplements worth taking in the first place.
Folate. Chlorophyll. Beta-carotene. Quercetin. These are heat-sensitive. Conventional drying methods destroy them or significantly reduce their potency. RWD preserves them, along with the vibrant color and natural aroma that signal a nutrient is still alive and intact.
If you have noticed that Standard Process supplements look brighter than they used to, that is the technology working. You are seeing more of what was in the plant, not a formula change.
I think about this the way I think about kibble versus fresh food. Yes, the kibble technically contains nutrients. But what survived the processing? What did your pet's body actually receive? The answer, more often than we want to admit, is less than the label suggests.
I Didn’t Just Visit — I Helped Build These Formulas
For two years, I served on the Standard Process Veterinary Advisory Council. That means I sat in a room with other practicing holistic veterinarians and helped develop the formulas that are now on the market.
Canine Cognitive Support. Mushroom Complex for Dogs and Cats. And the one I want to talk to you about right now: Calming Comfort Pro.
I know what went into it because I was part of putting it there.
Your Pet and July 4th: What Is Actually Happening in Their Body

Studies show that 72.5% of dogs and 66.7% of cats experience anxiety-related behaviors. For many of them, July 4th is the worst night of the year.
And I want you to understand why, because it is not just about the noise.
When a pet is exposed to a sudden, unpredictable stressor like fireworks or summer thunderstorms, their nervous system triggers a cascade: cortisol rises, adrenaline floods the body, heart rate increases, digestion slows, and the brain enters a state of high alert. For a pet who is already nutritionally depleted or whose nervous system is not well-supported, that cascade can be intense and prolonged.
Signs your pet may be struggling:
Panting, trembling, or shaking
Hiding, cowering, or desperately trying to escape
Pacing or inability to settle
Excessive licking, grooming, or chewing at themselves
Whining, barking, howling, or growling more than usual
Loss of appetite or digestive upset
Accidents in the house despite being housetrained
These are not behavioral problems. They are physiological responses to an overwhelmed nervous system. And that means the solution is not just distraction or confinement, but support.
Calming Comfort Pro: What It Is and How It Works
Calming Comfort Pro is not a sedative. I want to be very clear about that, because a lot of pet owners come to me having tried products that essentially knock their pet out and then wonder why the anxiety is just as bad the next time a stressor appears.
Sedation is not calm. It is suppression.
What Calming Comfort Pro does is support the body's own calming mechanisms so your pet can navigate stress from a more regulated place. It contains:
L-theanine, L-tryptophan, and GABA — three compounds clinically studied in dogs to promote calm behavior. They work by supporting the neurotransmitter pathways that tell the nervous system it is safe to settle.
Magnesium from buckwheat and kidney bean extract — grown on the Standard Process farm, supporting healthy GABA and serotonin pathways. Magnesium is foundational to nervous system function, and most processed pet diets do not provide nearly enough of it.
The ingredients work together. That synergy is intentional. And because they come from whole food sources grown in living soil, the body recognizes and responds to them the way it cannot with synthetic compounds.
Start it a few days before July 4th. Give the nervous system time to feel supported before the first boom hits.

What Whole Food Nutrition Can Do Even in the Hardest Cases
I want to share something with you that I find genuinely moving as a clinician.
A dog presenting with compromised kidney function was placed on a nutritional protocol using Standard Process whole food supplements. Over the course of the support period, meaningful improvements were documented in kidney markers, quality of life, and overall vitality, without pharmaceutical intervention as the primary driver.
The results were not theoretical. They showed up in the bloodwork.
I share this not to make a dramatic claim, but to make a simple one: if whole food nutrition can provide meaningful support to a dog whose kidneys are already under significant stress, imagine what it does as a foundation for a healthy pet.
The same ingredients that supported that pup's recovery are the ones I recommend every day, and not because something has gone wrong, but because something could, and a strong nutritional foundation is what prevents it.
And yet another moving story! Watch a rescue pup who learned exactly how much his supplements help him — eating them right out of her owner’s hand! And read his full story on how Standard Process supplements saved his life here!Â
